The
Friends of Animals chapter in Victoria has had an active campaign
against the horse drawn carriage trade in that city.
In
the last two years the focus has been on raising the profile of the
issue through several small demonstrations, educating residents, and
collecting signatures on petitions.
Since the
beginning of 2009, there have been two accidents involving carriage
horses in Victoria. In early March, a horse slipped and fell,
getting tangled in his harness and could not get up without assistance.
In late March, a horse spooked from a
noise, bolted and crashed into a cement flower bed and then ran into
traffic. The driver was hospitalized.
